Dr. Godfred Yeboah Annum is a distinguished academic, art educator, and educational technologist with a proven track record in advancing e-learning systems and curriculum innovation in Africa’s higher education landscape.
A Senior Lecturer in Fine Art and New Media Art Technology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana, Dr. Annum brings over two decades of experience in curriculum design, digital art instruction, and multimedia-based learning innovations.
He holds a PhD in Art Education, preceded by a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Fine Art in Painting, all from KNUST. His academic journey began at the Seventh-Day Adventist Teachers Training College in Koforidua, where he trained as a professional art teacher.
He further pursued a Diploma in Integrated Rural Art and Industry, graduating with distinction, and has since remained a pioneer in using digital tools to advance visual arts education.
Dr. Annum is widely recognized as the first academic to introduce New Media Art Technology into Ghana’s tertiary fine art education, integrating digital tools such as Adobe Photoshop and 3ds Max into painting and sculpture courses. This innovation empowers art students with vital digital competencies needed in today’s creative economy.
His unique expertise in e-learning pedagogy led to the development of ‘MULTIBRID’, a groundbreaking multimedia-based e-learning technology that allows for interactive documentation of studio and lab-based educational content—blending text, audio, still imagery, and video into accessible formats for distance learners.
At KNUST, Dr. Annum served as Head of the Department of Painting and Sculpture (2009–2011), where he championed the modernization of visual arts education.
He continues to influence education policy through his active involvement in the ERASMUS+ EEISHEA Programme of the European Union, where he lectures on e-learning integration, entrepreneurship, and sustainability in higher education.
As an Advisory Board Member of ALEI, Dr. Annum contributes deep insights into e-learning infrastructure, creative technology policy, and educational innovation.
His work supports ALEI’s strategic vision of fostering inclusive, digitally empowered education models that respond to Africa’s developmental challenges. Director of Prisons (Agriculture) – Retired | Corrections Reform and Agripreneurship Expert
Mr. Hanson Adu Awuku is an accomplished agripreneur, reform strategist, and former Director of Prisons (Agriculture) with over three decades of distinguished service in public leadership, agriculture-led correctional transformation, and social impact project development in Ghana and across West Africa.
He holds a BSc in Agriculture with First Class Honours from the University of Ghana and an MBA in Marketing from the University of Ghana Business School. Mr. Awuku’s unique combination of agronomic expertise, correctional reform insight, and enterprise development makes him a strategic asset in designing inclusive, rehabilitation-driven social enterprises for marginalized populations.
During his tenure with the Ghana Prisons Service, Mr. Awuku led groundbreaking initiatives that introduced vocational rehabilitation through agriculture, agro-processing, ICT training, and artisan skills. He successfully mobilized public-private partnerships, including support from Heifer Project International, UNDP, ADRA, and corporate sponsors like Toyota Ghana and Yara International. His projects empowered hundreds of inmates with practical skills, enabling their reintegration into society.
He also served as a Corrections Advisor to the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), where he designed and implemented agricultural rehabilitation frameworks for the National Palace of Corrections. He co-authored inmate training manuals, secured TeleFood/FAO grants, and supported literacy, ICT, and agribusiness education for incarcerated persons in Liberia.
Mr. Hanson Adu Awuku began his career in education and agricultural development, serving as a General Science Tutor at the New Juabeng College of Commerce and later as a Nursery Supervisor at the Aburi Botanical Gardens. He subsequently taught Core and Agricultural Science at Adonten Senior High School. These foundational roles nurtured his passion for agriculture, education, and human capacity development.
In 1995, Mr. Awuku transitioned into the Ghana Prisons Service as a Cadet Officer, marking the start of a remarkable public service journey. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, holding several key technical and administrative roles. From Agricultural Officer (1996–2004), he was elevated to Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Commercial Officer, and Chief Agricultural Officer, where he led policy reforms in prison agro-enterprises and coordinated the development of inmate rehabilitation projects.
He served as Deputy Chief Commercial Officer from 2013 to 2015 and also acted as General Staff Officer and Head of the Welfare Secretariat, overseeing the welfare of officers and inmates across the country. Between 2015 and 2021, he was appointed as Officer-in-Charge of the Manhyia Local Prison, where he demonstrated transformational leadership by introducing vocational training programs, securing corporate and philanthropic partnerships, and improving infrastructure through innovative fundraising and networking.
From 2021 to 2024, Mr. Awuku served as the Director of Prisons (Agriculture), the highest rank in the agricultural division of the Service. In this national leadership role, he oversaw planning, budgeting, and implementation of correctional agricultural programs across all prison establishments in Ghana. His tenure witnessed major reforms, including expanding plantation acreage, introducing agro-processing machinery, and securing substantial support from private sector actors such as Yara Ghana and Toyota Ghana.
Internationally, Mr. Awuku brought his expertise to bear during his secondment to the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) from 2009 to 2011, where he served as a Correctional Advisor and Agricultural Mentor. There, he led training initiatives, developed farm-based rehabilitation models, and helped align Liberia’s National Palace of Corrections with global standards on inmate rights and sustainable corrections management.
Mr. Awuku has worked across various correctional establishments including Nsawam Medium Security Prison, Ahinsan, Kpando, Prisons Headquarters, and Manhyia Local Prison. His progressive career is marked by leadership in agriculture, marketing, commercial operations, welfare services, international advisory, and institutional reform.
A seasoned policy innovator, Mr. Awuku has contributed to national correctional policies, agricultural reforms, and cross-sector partnerships. Under his leadership, Ghana’s correctional agriculture sector saw a 166-acre expansion in palm plantations and received GHS 350,000 worth of fertilizer support from Yara Ghana. He also led efforts to modernize prison farm logistics and value addition by procuring milling machinery and initiating Green Ghana afforestation collaborations.
As an advisory board member of ALEI, Mr. Awuku brings deep expertise in sustainable livelihoods, institutional agriculture, prison-industrial reform, and strategic project planning. He plays a key role in shaping ALEI’s climate-smart agripreneurship models and restorative justice advocacy, especially in under-resourced and vulnerable communities.
Mr. Awuku’s career exemplifies ethical leadership, social entrepreneurship, and transformational public service, and he continues to champion inclusive economic models that bridge incarceration, dignity, and productive reintegration.
